
F-1/J-1 Students
Individuals admitted to the U.S. on student visas (F-1 or J-1 visas) must obey a special set of immigration laws. In addition to these laws, you must also abide by local, state, and federal laws and the University's Code of Student Conduct. Below are some of the basic guidelines you must follow in order to maintain your F-1 or J-1 status.

Register Full-time
All international students in F-1/J-1 status are required to maintain a full course load of study during each semester in order to remain in compliance with their non-immigrant status.

Maintain Health Insurance
All J visa holders are mandated to maintain proper immunizations, vaccinations, and health insurance due to high healthcare costs in the US.

Report Personal Changes
F-1/J-1 students are required to report changes in their personal information to ISSS.

Prepare to Travel
To re-enter the U.S., ISSS advisors require a valid travel signature on I-20/DS-2019, verifying SEVIS record status and reviewing immigration documents.

F-1/J-1 students are required to report changes in their academic information to ISSS.

Returning Process
International students returning to ISU after an absence should submit a Returning from Leave Request through the ISSS Portal.

Regaining Status
If you receive notice that your status has been terminated by a non-University entity, please contact an immigration attorney for further guidance.
