English Language Practice
Conversations Café
The Conversations Café is a program organized by ISU’s I-House to help you practice your English skills and make lasting friendships while enjoying some coffee, tea, snacks, and playing board games.
International Students Inc.
International Students Inc. (ISI) is a local organization not affiliated with ISU that provides a variety of services such as conversational English groups.
Bloomington Public Library
The Bloomington Public Library hosts an English Language Conversation Group that is designed for adults whose second language is English.
Heartland Community College
The local community college offers English language programs.
Family Resources
Public Schools
There are two public K-12 school districts in the area:
Which district your child will attend is based on where you live (your home address). In the U.S. parents will often make their housing decisions based upon the school district for that specific address.

Childcare
In Illinois, there are multiple childcare options, including:
- Day Care Centers – childcare offered at a non-residential facility
- Family/At Home – childcare offered in a home setting other than the child’s home
- School-Age – childcare offered before/after school (sometimes offered on site at the school)
- Pre-Kindergarten – childcare programs that offer early learning experiences for children preparing for kindergarten
- In-Home/Nanny – childcare provided in your home by a nanny or au pair

Childcare Resource and Referral Network
Childcare providers in Illinois are licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). However, not all providers are licensed. When a provider is licensed, it means they have met a strict set of standards established by DCFS.
